Press release

"Meus Caminhos": A dance show in Luxembourg

When the curtain goes up in the Abbaye de Neumünster on the 11th and 12th of June 2010, the audience will be swept away into the world of movement, music and true emotion. Meus Caminhos, directed and choreographed by Moa Nunes, unites talented dancers who will take you along their journey through the different and sometimes quite extraordinary paths our lives can take

Meus Caminhos, the story of the choreographer Moa Nunes is not a story of words but a story channelled through the body. With the beauty of movements it releases artistic energy and conveys a multitude of emotions that will capture its audience.

Meus Caminhos, which grew from the passion to promote the art of dance, has been created to inspire its audience and to show dance with a soul. It has its roots in the personal experiences of the choreographer. As he himself puts it: "Our past makes us what we are today. We need to understand this in order to understand ourselves. And it is this understanding that helps us to go on, to grow and to find the courage to follow our dreams."

The show features seven talented dancers – of which many come from Luxembourg - and of which all are extraordinary performers with an ability to reach out and express true and real emotion.

Moa Nunes is convinced that "art gives us the ability to open our hearts, and by doing this, it gives a helping hand to the world around us". It is for this reason that the show also has a charitable purpose. A portion of the proceeds will go to Red Line Children Charity, an organisation helping vulnerable children in Brasil.

Dance Project Meus Caminhos

MEUS CAMINHOS is a dance project that grew from the passion to promote the art of dance. The idea of the project was born from the desire to offer young talented dancers a chance to be involved in a fully-fledged dance production. Young dancers often find it very difficult to get a chance to perform in a professional production. Yet, this is a crucial part of dance education. The project has been designed with this in mind. It offers a unique chance for young dancers to be involved in a learning process with a professional choreographer. My aim is to inspire the dancers to develop their talent further, to cultivate their individual creativity and personal expression, and to offer them the support and encouragement they need.

However, MEUS CAMINHOS is not just a showcase for young talented dancers. Apart from the educational dimension, there is also a strong desire to bring dance to audiences of all kinds. Dance has always been an important part of our society. It offers a channel for communication, a medium of interaction. It is a powerful tool for conveying a message, evoking emotions and provoking thoughts. We may all experience dance in different ways, but it is something we can all enjoy. Therefore, it has always been my passion to bring dance to everyone, and this project is an important step along this way.
Last but not least, like all choreographers, I have a story to tell - an urge to convey what I feel through my art. My story is not a story of words, but a story channelled through the body, through the beauty of its movement, through the flow of its energy and through the multitude of emotions it is capable of conveying.

MEUS CAMINHOS was inspired by the paths that I have travelled so far. Our past makes us what we are today. We need to understand this in order to understand ourselves. And it is this understanding that helps us to go on, to grow and to find the courage to follow our dreams. It is this understanding that gives us the ability to see our lives in a new light – and to remember how precious life is. We are all part of the same universe that is pulsing in our blood, guiding our spirit and shaping our destiny. There are times our paths cross, there are times we travel alone. Sometimes we get lost, sometimes we take the wrong turn. With our paths we weave the fabric of our lives and that of the universe.
